Prayer #16

O God: Give me strength to live another day;

Let me not turn coward before its difficulties or prove recreant to its duties;

Let me not lose faith in other people;

Keep me sweet and sound of heart, in spite of ingratitude, treachery, or meanness;

Preserve me from minding little stings or giving them;

Help me to make my heart clean, to live so honestly and fearlessly;

Open wide the eyes of my soul that I may see good in all things;

Grant me this day some new vision of thy truth; Inspire me with the spirit of joy and gladness;

and make me the cup of strength to suffering souls;

in the name of the strong Deliverer, our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Prayer #17

I will try this day to live a simple, sincere and serene life, repelling promptly every thought of discontent, anxiety, discouragement, impurity, and self-seeking;

cultivating cheerfulness, magnanimity, charity, and the habit of holy silence;

exercising economy in expenditure, generosity in giving, carefulness in conversation,

diligence in appointed service, fidelity to every trust, and a childlike faith in God.

This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer 20

Grant us patience, O Lord, to follow the road you have set before us.
Let our confidence not rest in our own understanding but in your guiding hand.
Let our desires not be for our own comfort, but for the love of your kingdom;

Holy God, your knowledge exceeds what I grasp or see in any moment.
You know me better than I know myself.
Help me to trust in your mercy, to see myself in the light of your Holiness,
Grant me the grace that I may
find forgiveness and redemption. Amen.

Prayer #21

Eternal and loving God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn,
no fist is clenched, and no offense is uttered.
 Help us wield the sword of righteousness
and develop strength of love.
Search our hearts and root out any violence and mocking.
Spread your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace,
as children of one God;

to whom be dominion and glory now and forever. Amen.

Prayer #25

A Prayer for Dismantling Racism
Adapted from the Pax Christi USA Anti-Racism Team

Dear God, help us to dismantle racism, to understand that we struggle not merely against flesh and blood but also against institutions and systems that keep racism alive.

Create in us a new mind and heart so we may see our brothers and sisters in our neighbors.

Give us the grace and strength to be rid of racial stereotypes that oppress.

Help us to create a Church that embraces the hopes and fears of oppressed People of Color.

Make us one with you, in union with Jesus, and empowered by your Holy Spirit. Amen.
