THRIFT SHOPS NO “JUNK” ALL TREASURES
The thrift shop is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to noon, September through May.
For years, thrift shops have had the reputation of carrying “junk”. Well, what a surprise! The old cliché that one person’s junk is another’s treasure hardly applies in today’s thrift shops.
The Pass-A-Grille Beach UCC thrift shop was started by a group of four women in 1959 on the church’s second floor. It was quite a few years before it moved to its present location on Pass-a-Grille Way. Back in the ‘60’s, the building housed a tavern called Ted’s Hideway, a very popular place. When it went out of business, the church purchased the building, making the former tavern the new home of the church’s counseling clinic. A few years later the thrift shop moved in and the counseling/tutor clinic relocated to the second floor of the new addition of the church.
Carol Sigmund, manager, said the thrift shop receives donations from both the community and church members. The Pass-A-Grille Women’s Club makes a donation each year, following their flea market sale. All monies received are turned over to the church, to be divided between charities and church projects. Children’s clothing is given to the Happy Workers Children’s Center; clothing and books are given regularly to the Mustard Seed, an organization for recovering addicts; and many items are given to ASAP, the Salvation Army, CASA and the Mission, among others.
Items for sale at the thrift shop include both new and used men’s and women’s clothing, housewares, books, jewelry, shoes, handbags, office supplies and small furniture.
Come check us out! We think you'll be surprised at all the "hidden treasures" in our store.
